Join the Tufts South Asian Regional Committee for our interdisciplinary panel on cyber security and cyberwarfare in South Asia. It’s taking place TOMORROW at 12pm via Zoom! SARC invites you to a multifaceted discussion ranging from state sponsored hacking to cyber criminal activity and tech policy in contemporary South Asia. The panel promises to be a comprehensive discussion about the opportunities for both international conflict and cooperation in South Asia. We are delighted to welcome two guest speakers, Dr. Ravi Shankar Chaturvedi and Dr. Josephine Wolff.

The South Asian Regional Committee is an academic discourse and research group under the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University. Their work revolves around the 9 countries that fall under the region which include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Pakistan. This group will have a focus on social, political, historical and economic affairs, with the conscious intent to be in touch with current issues facing the South Asian subcontinent.

One word to describe the representation of most queer Bollywood characters: PROBLEMATIC. 

From John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan in Dostana to the dean Rishi Kapur plays in Student of the Year, queer representation in Bollywood has most often been for comedic value. The film industry seems to profit off of the presentation of homosexuality in a way convenient to them. While new TV shows such as Made in Heaven and Sacred Games shift away from these stereotypes, what will it take for the mainstream Bollywood industry to change its ways? 

The 2021 Climate Change Conference on February 19th and 20th, hosted by the Tufts South Asian Regional Committee (SARC), will feature four panels that each address the various challenges that climate change poses to the subcontinent. India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are amongst the countries worst affected by the climate crisis. Rising sea levels have displaced thousands of people in West Bengal and Bangladesh, while a shortage of freshwater has led to a diplomatic crisis between India and Pakistan.
