MERG: US Withdrawal: Implications for the Syrian Kurds and Middle Eastern Politics

The Middle East Research Group (MERG), formerly NIMEP, will be hosting a panel and discussion on US involvement in the Middle East with a focus on the recent withdrawal of American forces from northern Syria. Experts from the field will discuss the impact of this decision on different actors as well as on the future of U.S. relationships and policy in the MENA region. Following the panel there will be a small reception.

Tufts Middle East Research Group General Interest Meeting

Tufts Middle East Research Group (MERG) (formerly NIMEP) is a collaborative research group studying the  Middle East and North Africa. MERG is a non-polemical,  student think-tank and outreach initiative devoted to exploring progressive solutions to historic and emerging conflicts in the Middle East.

MERG's annual fact finding trip provides an opportunity to conduct independent research in the MENA region.  Past research trips have been to Egypt, Iraqi Kurdistan, Israel/Palestine, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.

What can historical cookbooks tell us about the history of one of the world's most popular dishes? This talk charts the medieval history of hummus recipes as a basis for understanding its present. NIMEP Weekly Discussion: Morocco, Music and the Maghreb

The Tufts Initiative for Middle East Peace will be hosting a discussion session with Professor Owen Cornwall of the Tufts’s Department of Religion. Amongst other things, we will be discussing Moroccan hip-hop culture and music in the Maghreb region. Professor Cornwall has done extensive work in the Middle East and South Asia regions and it will be a pleasure to hear from him. We welcome anyone with any interest in these regions to attend our event and we are looking forward to seeing you!
