Tufts Energy Security Initiative (ESI)

home > first level > esi

The Tufts Energy Security Initiative is an undergraduate student program focused on inquiry, research, and discussion regarding the military, political, economic, and environmental security aspects of energy. This endeavor seeks to engage students in both theoretical and hands- on projects regarding energy. A program supported by the Tufts Institute for Global Leadership, the ESI has the advantage of a broad based support structure, partnerships with other groups both in and out of the IGL such as NIMEP, EPIIC, and TIE and an international security outlook that is unique to the IGL and Tufts University.

Now more than ever it is imperative to conduct a non-polemical investigation of energy. Involvement in the Middle East, terrorism, environmental issues, and an international economy dependent on the readily available supply of energy necessitates a greater understanding of energy security. This understanding, especially among students, must go past standard rhetoric regarding high gas prices, the war in Iraq, and climate change. Energy is too complicated and vast an issue to limit the discussion in this way. The Tufts ESI will seek to alter the discussion significantly.

We welcome members from all academic disciplines. The only prerequisite is a desire to learn more about energy issues. For more information, email us at TuftsESI@gmail.com.
