Pilot Project: Iran Trip 2004

To begin understanding a country, its culture, and its people, it is important to have first-hand experiences in the country and with the people. This pilot trip will allow Tufts students to interact with Iranians from many walks of life, especially their student peers, as well as allow Iranians to interact with U.S. citizens with a broad range of interests. To this end, IDI has organized a two week trip to Iran (May 24-June 7, 2004). The first seven days will consist of a tour, including major cities such as

Mass poverty is one of the world’s most pressing problems and daunting challenges. The compelling facts are well known:

• Over one billion people – almost one in five – live in extreme poverty, subsisting on less than a dollar a day.
• If the poverty line was raised to $2 a day, more than half of the world’s population would be living in poverty.
• Over 100 million primary school-age children cannot afford to go to school.
• Eight million people die each year simply because they lack the means to survive.
