RESPE Wins 2010 Davis 100 Projects for Peace Grant!

RESPE: Haiti will travel to Balan, Haiti during the summer of 2010 to implement a maternal health initiative with the $10,000 Davis Peace Project grant it was recently awarded. The Nesans Project, a collaboration between Tufts students and Balan community members, consists of constructing a sanitary birthing ward in Balan's clinic as well as facilitating maternal health trainings for the town's traditional birth attendants. The Haitian Coalition of Somerville, one of RESPE's Boston-based partners, is helping procure medical supplies and equipment for the maternal health ward.

November- January 2008

- Students planned first trip to Haiti.

January 2008:

- RESPE: Boston’s assessment trip. We listened to Balan’s priorities, which included health, education, and finance; met with community leaders; and established RESPE: Balan, which guides our research and identifies local resources and needs.

Spring 2008:

- We strengthened our Boston ties with our current partners, the Christian Haitian Entrepreneurial Society (CHES), Engineers Without Borders (EWB) at Tufts, the Haitian Coalition (HC), and the Tufts MPH Program.
