Amb. Richard C. Holbrooke, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, will receive a 2010 Dr. Jean Mayer Global Citizenship Award on Thursday, March 4 at 1:30pm in Barnum 008.  His talk is on "Managing the Most Pressing Challenges of Our Time: Reflections on U.S. Afghanistan and Pakistan Strategy."

A Journey from Activist to President, President Jose Ramos Horta of East Timor

President Ramos Horta gave an overview of the types of challenges East Timor faces today and in the course of this discussion underscored the fragility of the peace they have. In his presentation he also addressed the important role of leadership in facilitating reconciliation and explained why he has opposed appeals for an international tribunal to try the perpetrators in Indonesia. Finally, President Ramos Horta spoke about the current situation in Myanmar and appealed for the initiation of a dialogue with military leaders there in order to lay the seeds for an eventual peace.

Finland's Ahtisaari wins Nobel Peace Prize

The Nobel Committee awarded its 2008 peace prize on Friday to Martti Ahtisaari, the former Finnish president who has been associated over decades with peace efforts and quiet, cautious diplomacy from Asia to Africa and Europe.
