Dear International Student Delegations,
Welcome to the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University! We and our students are delighted to have your participation - more than 70 students from Brazil, China, Guatemala, India, Israel, Mexico, Peru, Rwanda, Singapore, and South Korea different countries - in this year's EPIIC symposium on "Global Poverty and Inequality", and we are looking forward to introducing you to two of the Institute's new initiatives, the EMPOWER program.
This web site is designed to facilitate your participation: there are links to the schedule for the visiting delegations, the EPIIC symposium, and readings that we can encourage you to look through in preparation for the symposium. There are also a link to EMPOWER. All of these will be explained in more detail when you arrive. EMPOWER is a new IGL program focused on poverty alleviation, and we are hoping that one of the outcomes of your visit will be eventually joint summer research projects with Tufts students and students from other delegations on this issue.
Also, there is some information that we are asking you to submit - these forms are important for our preparation and for ensuring a smooth program. We would greatly appreciate you filling them out and getting them back to us as soon as possible, especially the Housing and Dining Form. In addition, we are asking you to write a biographical statement and send in a photo so that these may be posted on the web site and you can see who your peers will be from each of the delegations. There is a link to the EPIIC students' bio on the site and you can use those as your model.
Below are introductions to the Institute, EPIIC and EPIIC's year on Global Poverty and Inequality. We encourage you to explore the IGL web site for more information on all of our programs and activities - www.tuftsgloballeadership.org .
Welcome,
Sherman Teichman, Director
