Tufts Energy Conference

Massachusetts Clean Energy Week

November 16, 2008 to November 22, 2008

ESI will have a number of events, including discussion fora and guest speakers, to recognize Massachusetts first annual Clean Energy week. ESI will also organize delegations to attend the Conference on Clean Energy in Boston and the UMass Cleantech Conference in Pittsfield.

UK Trade Consulate

April 2, 2008

As a follow up to the conference, the UK trade consulate in Massachusetts brought three UK energy professionals to Tufts to discuss energy issues with members of the ESI. The consulate expressed interested in helping to facilitate collaboration between Tufts and the Imperial College of London.

Transforming the Energy Market: Our New Generation

IMUSE

The ESI sponsored the Tufts chapter of Initiating Mutual Understanding through Students Exchange (IMUSE). The program was formed by a group of students from Harvard, Peking and Tsinghua University as a way to encourage cultural understanding leading up to the 2008 Olympics. The students sat on a panel along with four Tufts students and discussed the role of energy issues in the future of US-China relations.

World Energy Summit

January 21, 2008 to January 23, 2008
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE)

A group of eight students traveled to the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The conference was attended by thousands of corporate executives and energy ministers from around the world and featured speeches by energy experts and world famous figures such as Prince Charles (via hologram), The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, former CEO of BP Lord Brown, architect Lord Foster, Steve Sawyer of the Global Wind Energy Council, the Presidents’ of Iceland and Djibouti, among others.

Wind in China

December 15, 2007 to January 8, 2008

During the 2008 winter recess, two students traveled to Beijing to undertake research on China's rapidly expanding wind energy industry. Through meetings with various experts active within the field, the students sought to assess the current status and the future prospects for large-scale wind development and prescribe realistic policy solutions to foster such development.
