ALLIES Discussion- Race to the Arctic: China and the U.S.

Date & Time October 16, 2019 8:00pm - 9:00pm
Location
Eaton 206
Program
ALLIES

As the Arctic warms up, new shipping lanes have been created from previously frozen sea routes. China, in response, is developing a military presence in the Arctic and claiming new trade routes for their Belt and Road Initiative. China's actions have raised concerns from the United States which has also established its economic and military interests in the region as well.

Join ALLIES and our co-hosts at SURGE next Wednesday, October 16, in Eaton 206 to discuss how the growing conflict in the Arctic plays into the larger conflict between China and the United States for global hegemony. As always, no prior knowledge is required and background readings will be provided at the meeting.
